A major UK energy organisation engaged Inoni to help strengthen its business continuity and crisis management capability across a large and operationally complex business.
The organisation wanted more than a collection of plans and documents. The objective was to create a practical resilience framework that would improve preparedness, increase engagement across the business and provide a foundation for ongoing business continuity management.
The Challenge
With multiple operational locations, critical infrastructure, technology dependencies and specialist teams, the organisation needed a structured approach to understanding risk and preparing for disruption.
Like many organisations, there was also a desire to move beyond a compliance-led approach and develop a business continuity capability that people would actively engage with, understand and use during a real incident.
Our Approach
Working closely with senior leaders and subject matter experts, we facilitated a series of structured workshops to understand the organisation's critical activities, dependencies, recovery priorities and resilience requirements.
The focus throughout the programme was practicality. Rather than producing generic documentation, we worked with stakeholders to develop plans, processes and recovery arrangements that reflected how the organisation actually operates.
Alongside the planning activities, the programme also included training, exercising and cyber resilience components to help ensure continuity arrangements could be understood, validated and maintained over time.
Business Continuity Services Delivered
As part of the programme, Inoni delivered:
- Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and dependency mapping
- Risk assessment and continuity strategy development
- Crisis management framework review
- Crisis communication arrangements
- Function-level business continuity plans
- Incident and crisis management role cards
- Scenario-based recovery runbooks
- IT disaster recovery and cyber response planning
- Online business continuity training modules
- Crisis simulation exercise and reporting
- Business continuity management framework and improvement roadmap
These deliverables provided the organisation with both the documentation and governance structure required to support a mature and sustainable business continuity programme.
The Results
The programme achieved the objectives established at the outset of the project and delivered several tangible benefits across the organisation.
These included:
- Completion of business continuity documentation
- Improved engagement across the business
- Successful completion of exercises
- Ongoing planning for future resilience improvements
Importantly, the project helped create momentum for the continued development of resilience capabilities, ensuring business continuity became an ongoing management activity rather than a one-off exercise.
